This year, everybody and his dog are welcome at the Houston World Series of Dog Shows.
The 42nd Annual HWSDS Returns to NRG Center, July 17 through 21.

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston World Series of Dog Shows returns to NRG Center July 17-21, 2019. This year’s cluster of Shows hosts a fun-filled schedule for families of all ages. Several events are open to family dogs, pedigreed or not. The central feature of the Shows is always the conformation competition among almost every AKC-recognized breed. But high-action performance events such as flyball, Frisbee™ and canine musical freestyle are crowd favorites. Eye-popping contests including creative and competitive dog grooming add the spice, and the Dr. Mari Jon Filla Student Art Competition adds the charm, displaying creations from dog-loving area school kids.  Just watching beautiful dogs no doubt lessens stress, but, for those who also need retail therapy, the ever-growing McScotty Market adds to the experience.

Sponsored by local kennel clubs including the Houston Kennel Club, the Shows’ underlying mission is to educate the public about responsible dog ownership through seminars. Most major shelters and rescue groups exhibit there, and Meet the Breeds sessions teach potential dog owners about certain breeds in a series of hands-on workshops.

Show chair, Tom Pincus, draws attention to events open to the family dog, no matter its bloodlines.  “AKC’s My Dog Can Do That! is an event in which owners can introduce their dogs to the basics of agility with coaches standing by to offer tips. In Barn Hunt, dogs sniff out carefully protected rats concealed in hay stacks. And Weight Pull, in which dogs pull trailers loaded down with bags of dog food, is open to any dog also. Our brand new event this year is intended to highlight rescue dogs. Our Houston’s Rescue Dogs Have Talent gives rescue-dog owners a chance to put their dogs in the limelight by entering them in five categories of competition – Best Butt Wiggler, Best Dog-Owner Look-Alikes, Best Trick Performance, Best Vocalist and Cutest Look in a Costume.”
