Events Any Dog Can Enter

Always striving to add more events to help you engage with and enjoy your dog, the Houston World Series of Dog Shows is now offering three events that are open to any dog, any breed or mixed breed.  The AKC® MY DOG CAN DO THAT! event requires no fee other than general admission to the show while the Weight Pull and Barn Hunt involve nominal fees that function as fundraisers for the sponsoring organizations.

Friday, July 17 thru Sunday, July 19, 2015

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. continuous, Hall B

With guidance from professional coaches, participants can test their dogs’ skills in running a condensed agility course free from the pressures of an actual competition.

  • ·       Free with general admission to the show
  • ·       No preregistration required
  • ·       Open to any dog at least 6-months old with proof of rabies vaccination
  • ·       Must keep dog on a regular 4-to-6 foot leash; no retractable leashes

ALL-BREED WEIGHT PULL

Sponsored by the Alaskan Malamute Club of Greater Houston and the Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association (TAMR)

Some of these dogs can pull close to a ton. Come see them show their strength and ability to move incredible amounts of weight. Not to be missed! Click here to enter your dog.

  •  ·      Alaskan Malamute Clubs of America rules for a wheeled pull apply
  • ·       Entry fee is $20 per dog with all proceeds benefiting TAMR
  • ·       Awards will be presented for most overall weight pulled, highest weight percentage pulled and first and second place in each weight class.

 BARN HUNT

 For the first time this year, the dog show gives dogs bred to hunt rats and those just naturally talented at it a chance to shine. Check out  www.barnhunt.com for general information on the sport.

Open to any dog, the Barn Hunt is actually composed of three separate components — Rat N Gos, Hands-On Mini Clinic and the Barn Hunt Association (BHA) Fun Test — all with varying schedules,  All dogs must be at least 6-months old and have proof of rabies vaccination.

  • Those preregistered will receive “Express VIP” status, allowing them to show up as they wish and obtain first-available run order.
  • Those not preregistered may compete as walk-up entries on a space-available basis.

Hands-on Mini Clinic

·  For those who want some basic training for their dogs before they attempt the Rat N Gos

Thursday through Sunday, July 16 to 19, 2015

12 to 1 p.m.

  •  ·       Preregistration at www.dogjoytraining.com closes July 4, 2015. Limited to 10 dogs per day.Runs last approximately 5      minutes per dog
  • ·       Those not preregistered may compete as walk-up entries on a space-available basis

 BHA Fun Test 

     Friday and Saturday, July 17 to 18, 2015

  Beginning at 6 p.m.

  • The official, full-scale BHA event for serious ratters
  • Thirty total runs (Instinct through Open Courses) each evening
  • Preregistration at www.dogjoytraining.com is required and closes July 4, 2015
  • No walk-up entries
